This volume, Ethics and Fiqh of Contemporary Issues, carries within it a journey spanning many years of teaching, scholarly reflection, and collective dedication — the journey of a group of academics at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) who have given much of their professional lives to a single, vital conviction: that the moral formation of the student is not an optional supplement to university education; indeed, but its very heart. This book is offered as an act of scholarly and pedagogical service: to the students of IIUM who will use it as they navigate the UNGS Ethics and Fiqh of Contemporary Issues course and, beyond that, as they navigate the moral complexities of their professional and personal lives; to the tradition of Islamic ethical and juristic scholarship that it seeks to honour, extend, and make accessible; and to the broader human conversation about ethics that our age so urgently and persistently demands.
