Medical students taught in the different universities, both local and abroad, may adopt different styles of patient care. Much will depend on the emphasis given by the different faculty members of the different relevant universities, based on their own background and experience. Over the years, this has resulted in varying standards of health care provided by our young doctors towards their patients. Doctors are at times perceived to be cold and impersonal and rely too much on modern technology rather than the time-tested traditional history taking and physical examination to arrive at a diagnosis or arrange for tests or investigations to be done on their patients. Obviously, advances in medical science and technological innovations plus the different teaching methods and instruments employed by the different universities as well as the so-called mentors have influenced the way Medicine is being practised today.
